More about this scene
This photograph looks down on the town from an aqueduct along the Macclesfield Canal, the last canal to be built in England, which opened in 1831. It was built to transport cotton and silk as well as coal and stone; today, used mainly by holidaymakers, it is considered one of the prettiest waterways in the country.
