More about this scene
The village is listed in the Domesday Book as Bodeton. The great age of the market cross, with its uneven steps and remains of the punishment stocks, is apparent. A Market Charter was granted in the 14th century. The group stands in what is the smaller but definitely the older of the two village greens. In 1970 a village hall was built to accommodate the varied activities of a growing population.
