Boreham Airfield, Visits.

A Memory of Boreham.

Where I was born, Wife of next door neighbour, had a Sister.
She used to visit, now and again.
Gradually, as time went by, my Father, and her Husband became friendly.
After a while, We got invitation, to go and visit them, where they lived.
They lived, on the Airfield, at Boreham, near Chelmsford.
So, decided one weekend, to make a visit.
This was around, 1955. Father luckily, had a car, so no problem, with transport. Also he was a tanker driver, for
ESSO, so used, to finding, places around the Country.
Anyway, found it, though, not easily.
Surprising to us, they lived in a Nissan Hut, a large, bow shaped building, strange to us.
Upon entering, was a very lovely, Comfortable, Pretty place.
Just like a Country Cottage.
The Chaps, name was, BOB DART, his job on field was
Caretaker, and I think, Security.
Lovely Chap, when got to know him. Was a very loud,
Scotsman.
I was about, 11yrs. old At this time. Brother was about 9yrs.
Was great walking around, the airfield, seemed huge to us.
Bob had an air rifle, which he let me use, later on as
Friendship, continued.
This was the contributing factor, to my lifetime, Sport, and hobby, as is now.
Couldn’t wait, for subsequent, visits.
Another little Story,
I lived then, and still live in the Village of Blundeston, of Dickens Fame. Quite a few miles from Boreham.
Had couple heart attacks, about five years ago.
Called Ambulance, when being taken to local hospital.
Conversed with, Paramedic. Asked him where he lived.
Answer was, BOREHAM!!. Chances of that!!
Anyway hope this, wasn’t too, “BORING”!!.
Regards.

This is a good memory. Full of info, air guns etc. That's how it was back then. Look in the Mecano Magazine for these times, Diana air rifles and Webley air guns advertised. I remember Nisan huts and prefabs.
