More about this scene

This view, with the Grand Hotel on the left, shows the extent of the beach. The girls are wearing light short dresses - quite a contrast to their Victorian and Edwardian predecessors, who wore several layers of clothes, even on the beach. Beneath the sand are the remains of a forest that grew here at the end of the Ice Age before the sea rose to its present level. The stumps of massive trees, and the peat they grew in, are sometimes exposed by heavy seas.

Over The Railway Tracks
This church was over the railway which ran along the back of Borth. The track that leads to it was at the end of the platform on the street side. The church is on a small hill which on the other side was a WW2 lookout. There was a wedding there one summer - we would go blackberry picking in the nearby lane.

Hall Of Residence
Pantyfedwen, as I remember it from 1971, was the women's Hall of Residence for the College of Librarianship, Wales. By the time I lived there, briefly in the Autumn Term of 1971, it was in the process of being decommissioned, as the College had built new Halls of Residence on the Llanbadarn Campus, in Aberystwyth, although the opening had been delayed. My Stay In Borth Umer 1965
I came to Borth at the age of 15. I was with a youth group of baptists from Rogerstone, Newport in Gwent. We stayed for a week at The Grand Hotel. We had religous education in the mornings and then the rest of the day was ours on the beach. We gathered on the beach in the evening time for communal hymn singing! How we must have terrified the locals! It was a lovely week and I made a lot of new friends. Lovely memory. Were you there too?

My Love Of Brynowen Continues
I do not remember my first visit to Borth as I would have been a few months old around about the spring of 1963. As a family we then returned every year staying at Brynowen, sometimes twice a year, until I turned 18 at the end of 1980. By then I felt I was too old and branched off on my own holidays. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
