As with so many seaside resorts of the 19th century, Bournemouth attracted a wealthy and fashionable clientele. Shopkeepers were not long in seeing the business potential of catering for both residents and tourists. Shops and arcades were opened in the centre of town, such as the splendid example of Victorian architecture shown here.
