Bourton On The Water, By The Windrush 1956

More about this scene
The River Windrush threads through Bourton, carpeted on either bank by broad greens. One of the village's more eccentric traditions is a football match which locals play each August Bank Holiday as they have done for many years past - up to their knees in the river. It is quite a spectacle, and crowds gather annually to witness the madness. At least they know there is no chance of the match being cancelled owing to a waterlogged pitch.
