More about this scene
The well-filled departing steamer is one of the fleet constructed in the second half of the 19th century, still puffing happily on the timetabled service, but now supplemented by a considerable number of smaller motor launches, ideal for shorter excursions. The pier buildings now carry bold 'Bowness Pier' lettering on the roof (right), whilst J T Saul, advertising 'launches and boats for hire', has huts tacked on to the near end of the buildings.
