St Martin's Square takes its name from the nearby parish church, which was consecrated in 1483 and contains medieval glass which is thought to come from Cartmel Priory. The church was enlarged to its present form in 1870, and it watches over the older part of Bowness, which is known as Lowside.

My dad Harry Moore, known as Sarge would ride his motorbike in all weathers to get to work ,which was at Ferryhouse, to get there he would go and return on the ferry. I would go with him sometimes at the weekend if there was any problems for him to fix.
