Bowness On Windermere, The Tennis Courts 1925

More about this scene
Here we have a summer scene showing part of the Glebe area behind the Promenade. People in the shelters watch the play on the three public tennis courts. Unlike the players on the same courts today, the dress for the game is immaculate. Just two motor cars are parked by what is now a very congested roadside. Until the development of the Promenade for tourism purposes early in the 20th century, the area of the tennis courts was occupied by the Bowness Council's sewage settlement tanks.
