More about this scene
Arthur Mee described Holy Trinity Church as 'a fine church with many fine possessions'. On the wall of the nave is 'one of the loveliest fragments of sculpture in Wiltshire, the portrait of a 13th-century lady, with curls in her hair, and hands clasped'. This was rescued during renovation work in the 1860s - it had been used, face down, to repair paving.
