My Bradninch....My Home

A Memory of Bradninch.

I was born in Bradninch on February 17th 1951. I lived in the house I was born in, at 12 Passmore Road, where I lived till I married Alan Gubb. I was Lorraine Hooper, youngest daughter of Gilbert & Kathleen Hooper.
I enjoyed going to school in my younger days and made several friends.
Bradninch has changed a bit over the years and I don't know many people who live there now. Its a cute village, quaint and friendly. We made our own fun in our younger days we didn't have all the things that kids have today.

My family moved to Bradninch from Bristol in 1959. I was 4. We lived in a small cottage which had a church at the end of our lane. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of our lane but there was a farm opposite. We only lived here for a few years but it's still very vivid in my memory. My surname was Bowden and there were lots of Bowdens buried in the churchyard. I distinctly remember our toilet - at the bottom of the garden which was terrible when the weather was bad. I recall coming in from school and seeing Mum's muslin cloth on the line which meant jam roll poly for tea. Fond memories indeed.
