4th June 1961 Jfk Passes Through

A Memory of Brentford.

It was 4th June 1961 and John F Kennedy was due to pass by Brentford on the Great West Road. The M4 had not yet been built. I went with my friend Graham around 7pm and joined the many people sitting on Macleans wall opposite the Turriff Building. The calvalcade passed by and we started to walk away. As we did so we met three girls, Susan Geraghty, Jean Archer, and Dina. We walked up the Great West Road past Firestones art deco building where Jean proudly informed us that her father worked there. We may have walked to Gillettes corner before turning back. We then walked through Boston Manor Park past the bowling green and fine house. We then passed by the lake talking about everything so full of energy and wonder for these girls. I remember the day so well as the next day I was due to start work at London Airport with BOAC.

My friend from that day (Graham Trotter) I have learned has passed away. RIP. Many good times spent together and I will always remember 4/6/61.

I went to school with Jean Archer and Susan Geraghty .I also was along The Great West road that day and saw JFK . Small world .
59 years ago. Where did those days go? Started a career, finished a career. Had children. Bought loads of clothes for each decades fashions. Brentford changed. M4 cut up Boston Manor Park. Its a cliche but we were so young then.
Its 61 years ago today!!! How clearly I remember us teenagers so full of life. Gathered that evening outside of the old Macleans factory. Perhaps you should not look back but sometimes you cannot help it.
