More about this scene
A horseman rides north-eastwards, along what is now St Andrew's Road towards Bradpole, when this was part of that parish before boundary changes brought the northern suburbs into Bridport borough. It was provided with its own Anglican chapel of ease (right) in 1860. The dedication, to St Andrew, preserved the memory of a medieval predecessor, which gave its name to St Andrew's Well. The architect was Talbot Bury, from London, and the builders Chick and Son of Beaminster. The mason, from Bradpole, was Joseph Gibbs. The access road to the Delapre estate can be seen (left), and Roger's Cottage, beside Long's Lane, is in the distance (left of centre), with houses Nos 76 to 68 being in the near distance (right of centre).
