Bridport, Happy Island 1897

More about this scene
The most romantic spot in Bridport's immediate countryside, where a public path crossed the River Asker by a narrow arched footbridge, is known as the Happy Island. Looking north-eastwards towards Bradpole, the spire of Holy Trinity can be seen on the skyline (centre). The track on the right descends from the Dorchester Road, near the junction with Lee Lane, and that to the left heads for St Andrew's Well. The delightful spot, with stream-side Sprary Coppice as the backdrop (right), is in the parish of Bradpole.
