More about this scene
This is St Mary`s parish church in South Street, seen from the north-east. The projecting north transept (right) dates from the 13th century and is two centuries older than the tower. The remainder, with the nave flanked on either side by aisles, was rebuilt in 1860. It had only been intended to rebuild the outer walls but the project became much more ambitious. The rector in late Victorian and Edwardian times, from 1895, was Rev Henry Farrer.
