The south side of West Allington, looking westwards from the White Lion Hotel to the Old Inn. Both pubs had landladies. Mrs Susannah Osborne was publican at the White Lion and Mrs Frances Biles at the Old Inn. The cart is outside the shop of butchers Robert JohnBalson and William Balson. Opposite, on the corner with North Allington, the principle towns on the cast-iron road sign are Exeter (straight ahead) and Chard (right). West Court is behind the trees.
