Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

Foundry Cottages (left) and three-storey Foundry House (far right), in West Allington, were the hub of Richard Robert Samson`s Grove Iron Works. These were the last buildings on the western edge of the town, on the Exeter road, where Foundry House is now flats and the metal-working premises of J I Blackburn Limited and an entire new housing estate has replaced the cottages. Looking eastwards towards Allington Hill (left) this view has changed almost out of all recognition.

Visitation Convent
I was a boarder at the Convent for four years 1954-58, cured me of religion as I hated almost every minute of it. The Nuns can only be described as brutal. I was once told that I was wicked because I had kept the other lads awake at night with my coughing. I always seemed to be ill and spent my seventh birthday in the sick room. Visitation Preparatory School Bridport
1962 to 1966, the car journey from Surrey was full of tears, taken by my mother and grandfather, on arrival the tiled entry and the Nuns in full habits greeted us, I was soon ushered in to the hall with promise of a goodbye before they left, which became a wave through a window. Boarder From 1954 Till 1958
I was sent to the convent after my Father died in 1953. My Uncle had been educated there many years previously. I can confirm the recollections that have been put here of the vicious way in which some of the Nuns treated us. Sister Ann
I was a pupil at this convent between 1961 and 67 and i remmeber getting beaten by sister ann on several occassions i think this must off been because my parents wher off cypriot origin and i had a greek surname if anyone whent to this convent during those years it would be nice to hear from you

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
