The centrepiece of Brighton was and remains the extraordinary Pavilion or seaside palace. Built as a farmhouse, then a classical villa, it was finally transformed by John Nash into this romantic Hindoo, Mahometan fantasy bedecked with domes and minarets between 1813 and 1822 for the Prince Regent who became George IV in 1820. Brighton boomed during the Prince's long association with the town, but in 1846 Parliament voted to sell the Pavilion. Fortunately the town bought it and it survives. Brighton, Hove And Lewes
Hello All, I am researching my ancestry on my late fathers side. I have very little information to go on but do know he did at some point live in the area,he was buried in Lewes but to my knowledge only lived there for a few years before passing away in 2014. I believe he may have had some connection to the area before this time. Any time between 1950’s and 2014 If anyone should recognise his name ...see more

Preston Park In Wartime And After
I remember that the eastern part of the park was turned into allotments during the war. And a water-filled ditch was created for testing tanks' abilities to cross muddy/hilly terrain. And after the war there were often sheep dog trials and other events to attend (I lived in Lovers Walk opposite the park). I'd love to see any photos of the Park at any time

Summer Days At Ovingdean
My mother and I had many happy summer days at Ovingdean in the 1960's. It was easy to catch a bus there from central Brighton, disembarking near St Dunstan's home, walking by underpass beneath the busy main road, then taking the stairs down to the Undercliff Walk. There was a kiosk and some beach huts there, and it was a very pleasant spot to enjoy a few hours by the sea.

Brighton College In 1930s
My mother, Olive Mary (Mollie) Feasby was a student at the college in the 1930s. I am looking for information about her future sisters-in-law, Marion and Rene Walker, also students there.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
