The Tramways Act of 1870 gave powers to Bristol Corporation to take over the system at book price in 1915, or at any seventh year thereafter. Every seven years the council could not get its act together to make a firm commitment. The result was that the tramway company spent very little on upgrading the system, and it remained virtually unaltered throughout its forty-six year existence.

Yvonne Veronica Anne Drake Married A Chafai (Moroccan) In Bristol In 1965
Hi, Does anyone remember a young woman born in 1943 called Yvonne Veronica Anne Drake who was working in a ladies clothing store in Bristol in 1965. Her dad was Peter Frank Drake, an Englishman serving in the RCAF in England and Canada. She married Tahar Chafai, a young Moroccan born 1941, on Dec 7, 1965 in Bristol, England. Visit To Bristol May 2019
Visited my Grandson, who is at Bristol University - his last year. Never been to Bristol before and couldn't believe how many interesting sights there are to see. A City with so much history. Spent four exhausting days, full of amazing sights and history plus amazing Cathedral and Churches. Thanks to the Hop on Hop Off Bus. Doreen Josephine Hyner aged 80

Denmark Street
During my search of my family history, I have discovered that a brother of my gran (Annie Brown nee Shill) owned a shop on Denmark street, Bristol. He ran a hairdressing business from 1917-1930. It was near to the Hatchet Pub, on a corner of the street. When his business closed for reasons I have yet to find out, the shop was taken over by by grandad's sister and brother-in-law, Sidney & Mary Caplin. They ...see more

Lunch On Founder's Day At Christmas Steps!
I was a 'Red Maid' from 1966-72, and at the end of November it was 'Founder's Day' commemorating the founding of the school by John Whitson in 1634. As Bristolians will well know the Red Maids walked from John Whitson's tomb to the Cathedral on College Green for a memorial service. After that service I remember having lunch with my parents at Christmas Steps - wonderful fish and chips! ...see more

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
