More about this scene

St John's Church, by Benjamin Ferrey, was completed in 1853 as the centrepiece of Angell Town. It has a fine Perpendicular-style tower with chequer-work battlements and elegant corner pinnacles. The 1850s houses between it and the photographer were demolished in the 1970s and replaced by a large council housing estate, Peckford Place. The lime trees in front of the church survive, and have matured well.

Tulse Hill Garden Which Bordered Brockwell Park
Where the present Tulse Hill Tesco Shop and Esso Petrol station stands today, was the home of my grandfather Alfred John Thomas from the 1920's to the 1950's. Through the 1960's & 70's his daughter Julie Thomas ran the Petrol Station. Bellesfields Road Of Stockwell Road In The War
At 26 Bellesfields road Brixton off Stockwell Road, lived James Greenfield a Police Constable, who lived with his mother Florence Sarah nee Tyler, at this address before he married Dorothy Thomas at Holy Trinity Church Tulse Hill on August the 3rd 1940.

Leslie Weedon Sweet Shop On Acre Lane
I would love to know more about my grandfather Leslie Weedon who ran a sweet shop at 10A Acre Lane (next door to the post office) until his death in 1956. My father and mother had the shop for a while after that, probably until the early 60s. If anyone has any memories - or even better, photographs - I would be so grateful.

44 Wiltshire Road
I was born at 44 Wiltshire Road, in the basement flat in June 1955, and lived there until I was 6. I remember listening to gospel singing coming from St. Johns church and the colourful weddings that happened there. I remember a car accident outside our house and one car rolled over and over, and landed well into the front garden. Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
