This view looks across the Main Bay from the pier, with two Thames sailing barges in the centre of the picture. Note the line of bathing machines under the cliffs. In former days, Broadstairs was noted for the shrine of 'Our Lady of Bradstow', so venerated by sailors that they would dip their sails in salute as they passed.
