More about this scene
This very attractive village has a fine triangular green dominated on the south side by its remarkably apt parish church, which from a distance looks as though it has always been there. In fact, it only dates from 1846. Brockham became a parish soon after, in 1848, when it was separated from nearby Betchworth. The green is used for cricket, as it has been since at least the 18th century; in the 19th century W G Grace played here.
