Kidderminster And Bromsgrove

A Memory of Bromsgrove.

Hi,
I was at Shenstone (Maths and Science, 1962-5, the same group as Gerry) and will forever be grateful for the excellent training we received. My name was Gerry Martin (now a more formal Geraldine Hammonds) and my lasting memory is of Miss Wood informing the whole college that it was unprofessional to be seen walking down the road eating fish and chips. I never could, but now that I am retired it is one of my guilty pleasures.
I belong to a walking group and a couple of years ago I led a walk around Stone. We even parked at the Hard and Hounds - remember the Cheese With or Without (onions)? Most evenings someone would walk to the pub and buy cobs for our supper.
Like many of you I continued studying, going on to get a B.Sc. In Maths and later an M.Ed. at Birmingham Uni, ending my career as a Maths Advisory Teacher for Dudley LEA.
Here is a challenge - can anyone beat this?
On 24 April 2024, I visited Janine Watkins (Gertner 1964-7). We last saw each other the day I left Shestone in July 1965. Although we had corresponded, we never met. We are even standing together on the June 1965 scroll. We had a lovely time sharing news and a few memories. So, a reunion after almost 59 years, can you beat that?
Thinking of years, as an August birthday, I shall be almost the last of our intake to reach 80 years. Birthday wishes to everyone,
Stay safe and live long
Geraldine
