More about this scene
Skelton Lane leads down through the commercial centre of Brotton. It is flanked on the right by a row of very old stone cottages that appear to lean to one side but nevertheless stand to this day - no doubt a testament to those who built them! The slip road on the left-hand side leads through to a grid-work of streets of Victorian houses, presumably built to house the miners who came to live in the area during the mining boom of the 1870s and 80s.
