Happy Memories Of A Simpler Time
A Memory of Brotton.
I grew up in Brotton from aged 5 to 20, 1966 to 1981, living on Marshall Drive the whole time. My sister is still there. School was at the old primary school at the top of the hill, daily 1/3rd of a pint of milk, and extra if there were leftovers. Caned twice by William Hesletine for generally being one of the boys (throwing snowballs at the Infants). Spent most of the time playing football, going fishing at Saltburn or just hanging around "down the woods". I enjoyed my time and it was simple enough and looking back a pretty good time to grow up. I think we had a better childhood than most kids seem to do now as there were no excesses. I recall going to Saltburn more as I grew up and the Ship Inn. The Philmore Disco was a regular Saturday night trip. Redcar came later with the Top Deck. After that it was bikes, cars and work. We used to go to Lumspey Pit to ride dirt bikes and also to Carlin How. I wish life was simple now.
