Andrews Close

A Memory of Buckhurst Hill.

I was born in Andrews Close in 1969 and wondered if anyone remembered the Lorelei cafe at the top of Queens Road opposite the Pink Clock Boutique which was owned by the daughter of someone famous. My Mum and Dad owned Gingers in the 70's on Princes Road.

I remember well the Loreli coffee bar and spent many hours there. It was an exciting place for a teenager - lots of frothy coffee and Ray Charles music. It was owned I think by Keith Hipgrave and John ? Both these men lived in Princes Road. and Keith had a brother who had been in the forces. David Humerstone, Jeffrey LeComber, and Ann Lusher also lived in Princes Road as did I. Such fond memories of growing up in Buckhurst Hill. I now live in New Zealand.

I think Gingers was the sweetshop halfway up Princes Road and probably opposite THE THREE COLTS? if so, I was a very loyal customer in the fifties and sixties, as a pupil at BHCPS further up Princes Road! And I still remember finding a fiver on top of a hedge opposite - a lot of money in those days!
