Happy Days

A Memory of Budleigh Salterton.

My grandfather was Chief Constable of Dorset from 1925 - 1956. When he retired my grandparents bought a house called either Ravensthorpe or Ravenscroft (it was a long time ago and I can't remember for sure!)in Victoria Place. Every year from 1957 when I was four till 1963 we would come here and stay for a couple of weeks for our summer holiday. The house and garden were huge and my sister and I had all sorts of fun both inside and out.

I've been studying this picture and I believe the first drive on the right with the stone wall was the entrance to my grandparents' house. If not it was the next one down but the distance from the main road looks about right. I believe that sadly the house has been turned into flats now but it was beautiful and I have very happy memories of our holidays there.
