London Road Primary School
A Memory of Burgess Hill.
I just read Martin Doonan's memories of Burgess Hill at London Road primary school . I lived in Burgess Hill from 1960 to 64 . Looking at the old photos bring back great memories . I was in Martin's class and remember your nickname was ' Doodlebug ' , Martin . I can remember David Bye ( nickname Bye Bye ) , David Mitchell and Derek Fuller . I think the whole school was concrete . Ah Yes. frozen toilets in winter , jumpers for goal posts . I also remember scoring a goal in my first match for the school football team at our sloped , home ground . Other boys in the team that day included Trevor Parsons , Raymond Leaney and a boy with the surname of Woodward who scored the other goal . Mr Baird's name and all the others I remember well , also Miss Brown . I don't think she taught us , but she was very strict on things like running in the corridors etc . Miss Hollaway would find fault with anyone . I remember Paul John as being the leader of class one , in the class 1 v class 2 football matches , played every lunchtime on the concrete playground . Paul John lived up Chanctonbury Road
Just read your memory and you filled in the gaps with some now familiar names. I lived at the time in Chanctonbury Road not far from where Paul John lived.Used to play in the woods drinkingTizer and built camps with metal milk crates and corrugated iron sheets. The Gascoinges lived close to the woods.
Played kick the can a lot.
