View From Station Hill

A Memory of Burgess Hill.

Anyone familiar with Burgess Hill (I lived there from 1956 until 2012) will know that this photo is incorrectly titled. London Road is some way off to the south - turn left at distant St John's church spire. We are of course looking from Station Hill (which is the bridge over the railway line) down towards the junction of Church Road and Station Road which branches off to the left.
To the right of the photographer is the Railway Hotel, where I've spent many happy hours, and just out of picture on the left is Burgess Hill station. I still have an old-style cardboard ticket - a day return to Brighton for 1/3d. The date has faded, but my guess is that it's from 1970, just before we went decimal. Decimal Five with The Scaffold anyone?
