My Childhood In Burnt Oak

A Memory of Burnt Oak.

We moved out of the East End to Burnt Oak after the war. W were then a family of Mum Dad & 3 girls. We lived in Trevor Road so only had a short walk to school. My earliest memories are of starting school at Goldbeaters when I was about 4 years old. In those days we started in what was then a nursery class. After lunch the whole class were put onto stretcher type beds with a grey blanket, to have a sleep. Us 3 girls all went to Goldbeaters until we left at 15 years of age. Irene my eldest sister went to work in the Don hairdressing, a couple of years later I did the same. After our brother was born we moved to Deansbrook. I went to the Connie Allen dance school. I could probably go on forever with memories of these times but, somebody else can have a go. Our names Irene, Jean, Pauline & Ken Grantham
