Burrowbridge, The Mump c.1960

More about this scene
Two miles south-west of Othery, the Taunton Road skirts the Mump, a natural tor rising steeply from the surrounding Moors. Seen here from beyond the River Parrett, it once had a castle; now it is crowned by the altered medieval tower of St Michael's church, another example of this dedication on a hill site. Attached are the remains of a church started in 1724. The early 19th-century former rectory is on the left. The Mump is a remarkable landscape feature with echoes of Glastonbury Tor.
