More about this scene
Imposing 19th-century buildings line one of Bury's main streets, which leads from the town's parish church, St Mary's. The attractive building on the left was erected in 1874 as the Union Club. Beyond lie Woolworth's and the distinctively-styled Burton's building. By the church stands a statue of Robert Peel, notable because his waistcoat is buttoned the wrong way.
