Wonderful Memories Of A 1970's Kid...Also Asking For Some Help If Possible.

A Memory of Byfleet.

I grew up in Bristol for the first 5 years of my life, then moved to Byfleet, and lived there for a short time until I was 10. We emigrated to the states because my Dad, who worked for Brown and Root at the time, was offered a chance to relocate to Texas, family and all, for a new job. So we moved.
But, I remember my time spent in Byfleet, I walked to school, everyday, and we lived on Fullerton Road, so after I finished my early schooling at the old school that was across form the Sanway store, I would have to walk past the graveyard of St. Mary's church on the way to my next, and final UK school, which is St Mary's Primary school now, I believe.
I remember Conker Arch as well, as another posted in the Memories. Man, having a blast looking for the best conkers to beat your friends with....having a brown paper bag full of conkers! I remember that wonderful feeling of sore fingers and knuckles from that fun! I still remember playing with a small toy deep sea diver, and submarine in the water by the canal's bank, while my Mum watched me, and then almost losing one of the toys in the current...seems like yesterday at times.
Byfleet was the place where I first learned to ride a bike, had my first big time crush on a girl...her name was Caroline, had some great friends that I still miss, especially my best friend Graham. I really enjoyed, and miss Byfleet, and to this day, 36 years later, I still wish we had never left.
Now I would like to ask for some help or information if anyone can help me....I have tried searching to no luck or avail. I went to the school that was...past tense...across the street on Sanway Road and Magdalen Crescent during the early 1970's. After that I went to the next school, at the top of Sanway and Rectory Lane until around 1978. I would love to find out the name, and what happened to the school on Sanway that seems closed and to have vanished from records.
The reason why is that during the time I was there, I think the BBC came to our school to interview some young children about their thoughts on some animals that were at the school. One of the animals was a reptile, a snake. I was one of those children that was briefly interviewed, and I would love to find that video clip, if it still exists. But, as I have said, I cannot find a record of a school there anywhere, and Google maps shows the school from the air, but now it looks disused and closed down.
Please, if anyone has any idea about that schools name around that time frame...1974 - 1978, on Sanway Road and Magdalen Crescent, I would be very grateful, it may help me find that clip possibly, which would be great to show to my Mum, and my kids. It's maddening to not be able to find any record of the school you know you went to!!
Thanks for reading this far if you did, and thanks for having this archive available to us.

Hi Michael,

I used to live in Magdalen Crescent in the 70's and my children went to the little school on the corner, unfortunately about 10 years ago the first school was closed down and all new kids now start at St,. Mary's School in Hart Road, sure they will have your film and photo's that you have been looking for,. Good Luck
Hello Christine, thank you so much for the reply! I thought I might be going slighlty insane...I did go to school there at the school that has no record! Thanks, it's reassuring to hear from someone who was in the area the time as myself. You have given me new hope, and I will see if I can contact the new school. Thanks again for helping!

Michael
