Cambridge, Market Place 1938

More about this scene
The Market Square has a tradition going back to the early Middle Ages, although the present Square replaces houses destroyed by a fire in 1849. With stalls creaking under the weight of locally grown produce, there is no hint of the rationing to come after the outbreak of war the following year.
