There is a real art to punting. If you do it properly, both forward motion and steering is provided by the pole. But as these boaters opposite the Green Dragon pub in Water Street in Chesterton demonstrate, it does take some practice, which is why a paddle can come in handy for the less experienced. There were two ferries operating across the river here to Stourbridge Common, the larger of the two able to take a horse and cart. Both ferries ceased operating in 1935 when a footbridge was built here.

Circus 1957
I was born at gaffers buildings grapes hill as a young boy 3-4 yrs old im sure I watched the circus coming up grapes hill my aunt whos 10yrs older disagrees and says they came up princewales rd after coming off train at Thorpe station nigel john larter

Summer Days Beside The Cam
From 1947 to 1956 we lived at Hardwick and drove into Cambridge once a month I enjoyed it on hot summer Saturdays, when we would have a picnic on the backs overlooking Kings College. Newell''s Hardwick To Cambridge Taxi Service
The Cambridge American Cemetry was built after the second war, during this time the odor of rotting bodies being buried at Madingley,caused my father to drive his taxi (photo) on the St Neot's Road or via Madingley Village depending on the wind direction. Trevor Hyghes
Like Marion DelFavero, I remember Trevor Hughes. He used to sit on the fountain steps in the middle of market square. My brother was in 'the Force' in those days and he used to say when the weather was really bad you could expect Trevor in for the night. Apparently a very clever man who fell on to hard times for the love of a woman...so rumour has it. Certainly a favourite character of the times, many photo's taken with him.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
