Cardiff, Queen Street 1893

More about this scene
The open aspect of the street pictured here and familiar to us today originates from the demolition of older buildings in 1862 to allow road widening. Queen Street as a whole was only named such in 1886 - originally the name referred to just one small section of Crockerton (sometimes 'Crockherbtown'). In 1855 this short row inside the town walls was described as 'merely a lane' containing about 24 houses.
