More about this scene
Tourism was boosted in 1930 by the opening of the high-class Carlyon Bay Hotel on a headland overlooking St Austell Bay. It was designed in the very latest architectural style, and there was a golf course adjacent to the site, which was described at the time as an `embryo resort`.
