More about this scene
A flock of sheep pose obligingly for Francis Frith's photographer near the head of the Winnats Pass, near Castleton. This road was the ancient way into the town from the west from Chapel en le Frith, but plans to close it to traffic in the 1970s were thwarted when the alternative road under Mam Tor finally collapsed.
