More about this scene
Caversham, Bridge Street 1908 59962 The Thames Valley Hotel on the left was built in 1891 and is now flats, while the Crown Hotel on the right was rebuilt when the present bridge was constructed. The 1869 bridge seen here replaced an odd 18th-century one: it was made of timber on the Berkshire south side and stone on the Oxfordshire or Caversham side, owing to a cross border disagreement.
