A Memory of Chadwell Heath.
Brought up > 66 Grantham Gardens 42 to 48; 319 High St 48 to 55, 32 Chadwell.Heath Lane 55 to 68. My sister was born in 48 @ 319. My father was C. M. Liley & Co, Builders @ 313 High Road [Grantham Gardens before that] + Had job of demolishing Whalebone House during the.war after extensive bomb damage. He also built last pair of semi detached units to close off Whalebone Land side of 'banjo' end of Grantham Gardens soon after the end of the war....can remember wooden scaffold poles + piles of lime mortar 'resting' before being used!! Plus being left empty for weeks after completion to dry out!! Visual memories reinforced by explanations some years after. Similar memories of dog fights over the Coop, along with air-raid sirens + watching doodle bugs going over!
