More about this scene
Charlestown was developed by Sir Charles Rashleigh at the beginning of the 19th century for exporting china clay and other minerals. This view, taken from the outer pier, shows the lock gate and at least six three-masted sailing vessels in the floating basin. Apart from the shipping and the installation of a modern lock gate, this scene is little changed today.
