More about this scene

We are looking westwards down East Hill, towards the parish church (centre). Your caption writer chatted here to a villager who told him about an old mutual friend, Dorchestor Rural District Councillor Margaret Kraft, and provided the information that Charminster was one of the first west Dorset villages to link up with Dorchester telephone exchange, the national grid, and piped water. She was positive about the dates for the last two - 1935 and 1937 respectively.
