More about this scene
The Riverside Town Mills of W Hooker and Sons are situated just to the left of the stretch of water visible in this photograph. Flour milling was an important Chatham riverside industry, and there had been a mill and mill pond on this site since before 1066; but like so much else in the town, it is no more.
