Former Gardener Of Checkendon Court.

A Memory of Checkendon Court.

I started working for Sir Nigel Broackes at Checkendon Court, in June of 1999, and was a Gardener through the turn of the Century. I was working for the Court for thirteen years, until the owner decided that I had been working for them for too long.

I was the only Gardener who stayed on at Checkendon Court, after the Estate was sold, in September 2001. I then worked for John Robinson, and his Husband, for the next eleven years. As I was living in a tied cottage, I had no intention of leaving.

I saw a lot of changes implemented by the Head Gardener, most of which made the work more difficult, which is why I was against them. Not for the reason that they thought it was.

I tried to research the history of the estate, and the list of the Rector's Sponsors in the church, has most of the names of the owners of Checkendon Court. Up until the name of Reade.

I have a lot of happy memories of working, and living in the village. Sue, and Pete in the shop. I even learned to drive, when I was in Checkendon.
