Carefree

A Memory of Chelsfield.

I lived in Foxbury Drive and I remember the wonderful freedom I had with my elder brother. Our garden backed onto the rec.and we spent all day either playing tennis 2/6d for the whole day or exploring the woods. My parents never had a second thought letting us be out all day as it seemed such a safe environment! I also remember the strong community spirit. May Queen where all the mums made the outfits and the dads working on the float I moved away when I was 12 and never captured that sense of freedom again and even though I moved away 55years ago I still recall the happy times.

No. I moved in 1963. My neighbours were called the Roakes- Susan was the same age as me and her brother was Malcolm was the same age as my brother. One of my friends was Jenny Mills and she had an elder sister Ellen and they lived in Daleside.
