More about this scene
Chesham's War Memorial, a statue in very white Portland Stone of a soldier with his rifle, was unveiled in 1921 and sits in a small green, now much altered. A temporary memorial was set up near the Market House before this one was built. The Post Office building on the right with the big 17th century brick stack is now a pub wittily called 'The Last Post'. Brandon's department store with its classical pilasters concealing its steel frame is now shops and offices.
