Since the middle of the 19th century, The Groves have provided a popular recreation area along the side of the Dee. However, the lack of people in this picture is probably due to the Frith cameraman obeying company instructions. Pictures such as this with little in the way to give their age away were taken for publication as postcards. They could be kept in print for years.
