This must be one of the most attractive villages in Surrey, with its large, sloping triangular green surrounded by good houses. The green is the scene of a spectacular bonfire on Guy Fawkes Night. This view is taken from the tower of St Mary's church on the other side of the A283, looking past the old forge with its heavily- pruned lime tree.

I lived at Coldharbour on Mr Passmore estate. Also there was Mr & Mrs Wady, Mr Puttock,
Mr Turner, And a couple who ran the paper and sweet shop behind the crown in Chiddingfold. I went to school in Chiddingfold and used to walk home to High Street Green. I also remember visiting a lady in Chiddingfold who was in charge of the fire siren. I used to call her Aunty Phil. Wat happy memories of my childhood and freedom to play.
I was a Chiddingfold child. My father was from Milford (Cozens) and his mother and father owned the little newsagents/grocery shop on Manor Road. My mum was from Shackleford (Reffold) and I didn't move far away - Godalming, and some of my siblings still live in Chiddingfold today, my youngest brother in the family home with his family and pops.

My Great Grandfather, James Bartlett, was a Blacksmith using the Smithy on the Green possibly in the 1880's or thereabouts. If there is anyone out there who may have photos or memories of this time I would much appreciate hearing about them. With thanks
My mother has just reached 100 years of age. She was the grand-daughter of a Sarah Barker (née Ayling) who came out to Australia in her early 20's. Sarah had two brothers, David and Alfred Charles. Their parents were George and Betsy Ayling of Chiddingfold. The father had died and Betsy with daughter Sarah and son Alfred Charles migrated to Australia in 1882/3.
