Chideock House on the left was, at this time, known as Myrtle Cottage, with a Mrs Bindloss as its inhabitant. Beyond are an obscured Bridge Cottage, By the Stream , and Apple Tree Thatch (centre). Opposite are Chapel Cottage, Chideock Court, Alice Cottage, and Chideock Post Office (far right).The enamelled sign ove the door offers the services of the day: 'Post Office for Money Order, Savings Bank, Parcel Post, Telegraph, Insurance and Annuity Business.' Mrs Gibbs, the postmistress, stands in the doorway with daughter Hilda. In the street is Mrs Kate Foss wuth Kathleen Mary Foss, holding everyone's attention in the pram. The latter would marry Wilf Symes and become the village postmistress. The Symes family still run Chideock Post Office Stores further down the street.
