Born In Chippinghurst Manor

A Memory of Chippinghurst Manor.

I was born in Chippinghurst Manor on 26 November 1943. I am not sure how long I was at the manor. The reason I was there was because my mother, who lived in Woolwich South East London, was unwell and my grand mother packed her off to Denton because it was calmer. Also, my mother lived within a couple of hundred yards of Woolwich Arsenal - a prime target for enemy bombers. My father was away at sea with the Royal Navy at this time. I would welcome any information on Chippinghurst Manor as, obviously, my parents have passed away. My mother used to talk of staying at a place called Pope's Farm. That is all I know apart from having one photo taken at the farm.

I was born in Chippinghurst Manor in 1941, my mother along with other pregnant mothers was sent to the manor from St Thomas's hospital to give birth but returned to London soon after.
I was born in Chippinghurst Manor in 1943. My father was in the RAF stationed at Brize Norton and they lived in 'rooms' in Bampton - I have been back to see the lovely house there.
Mum was seen at The Radcliffe Hospital but sent to Chippinghurst Manor for my birth. I never understood why as she never really talked about it. She was an older mum for those days - aged 33! She did tell me that she got shouted at for screaming ! If anyone could enlighten me as to the status of the Manor then I would be grateful.
You always wish you has asked your parents more questions especially about the things they clearly did not want to talk about!
I was born in Chippinghurst Manor in 1944. Family at the time lived in Brockley south London and it was a done thing to move expectant mothers out of the ares of London that Herr Hitler fancied dropping his bombs on. Quite a few years back I decided to pay it a visit and was looking over the gate and a nice country gentleman told me to bugger off as he was fed up with us Londoners coming here after supposed inheritances!!!!
I was born in Chippinghurst in May 1943, my mother living in Brockley, S.E. London. I "found" Chippinghurst some years ago but didn't see or speak to anyone. Like so many others, I wish I had asked questions of Mum when she was alive. Does anyone know how long the women stayed before returning home?
I’m writing on behalf of Brenda Spree who was born here during the Battle of Britain 25th August 1940. Her mother lived in Canada Road, Deal, and was relocated here to give birth. Has anyone got any further information about Chippinghurst Manor? Keep safe all.
My lovely late Aunt, Sylvia Cole, nee Davis (1942-2019) was born here on the 22nd of February 1942. My Grand Mother, Amy Davis was evacuated there along with three of her youngest children from the family home in Rotherhithe.
I was at Chippinghurst Manor on April 20 1944. All I found out from my mother was that it was a large house which had been owned by McDougalls the flour family. It wasn’t until My70’s I decided to look into some history as my birth certificate states Chippinghurst Manor I went looking for this large house and was I surprised when on turning the bend in this country Lane you come across the Bailiffs home. Very nice gentleman who told me that I was on red of the “Chippinghurst babes” apparently this is what we were called. Some of our mothers were sent there for their confinement if your father served in the Regiment of the then owner. I am sorry to say I cannot remember his name. My mother remained there until I was 10 days old when we returned to Beckenham. I was allowed to walk up to the house and was I surprised this large house was a beautiful Tudor mansion. Unfortunately could not go in but had a peep through the windows and inside looked just as amazing.
